ABOUT ME
When I was three, I had my first tryst with music at my home in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The strain of classical ragas in the house with a Guru coming over to teach my mother was instrumental in starting my musical journey. Surangama - my mother’s initiative to resurrect folk music composed from ethnic dialects of Bihar such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi,Awadhi - was where I honed my skills .
Performing along with my mother's troupe gave me the discipline and exposure needed for a budding artist. Having performed extensively within India and abroad I discovered new musical journeys and experiments. This helped me kickstart my own Bhojpuri folk music band Batohi (a traveler), under which I blend folk influences with contemporary music production, thereby creating a fresh new sound and treatment in the genre.
I also experiment with new soundscapes and experiences. Realising that music can improve our well-being, I conceptualised "Chakra Harmonising Ragas" - an interactive hour-long performance in which one can experience the flow of 7 Indian classical ragas through the 7 chakras of the body. It helps one to activate their body chakras, release energy blocks and feel more fulfilled and connected.
I also run a cultural initiative - Recalling Roots - with an inclusive approach to tradition and how it translates in our modern lifestyle.
I'm excited to see where music leads me.
